Many legislatures have moved quickly to introduce and pass voter suppression laws arguing that they are necessary to prevent voter fraud and allowing for little or no public debate.

These laws do nothing to prevent voter fraud - instead, they disenfranchise targeted populations, particularly the elderly, minorities, people with disabilities, young, and low-income voters.

Until we can get harmful Voter ID laws repealed, the Lawyers' Committee and Election Protection have compiled a set of Voter ID Toolkits that will help you get the ID you need to vote.

These toolkits provide detailed information on every step of the process of obtaining a valid ID required to vote.

Your time is valuable. Before you go to the DMV, you'll need to know when they're open, what documents they require to issue an ID, and how much the ID will cost. *South Carolina and Texas photo ID laws were denied pre-clearance by the United States Department of Justice and are not currently being implemented. A Wisconsin judge issued a permanent injunction to the Wisconsin photo ID law. Voters in those states are not required to present government-issued photo identification at the polls.
