When voter intimidation strikes, we never remain silent. And as Election Day draws closer, we are staying at the forefront of every issue affecting voters so that we can stop intimidation where it starts. No eligible voter should ever be dissuaded from going to the polls for any reason, that’s why we’ve created these billboards along with our partners to empower voters to stand up for their right to participate in our democracy.
These images will be featured on billboards in Wisconsin and Ohio, but you can use these images to create your own online billboard.
Choose one of these billboard images and share it via social media. You can even go a step further and make these images your Facebook cover image, or Twitter Avatar so that your entire network will get the message every time you sign on. Be sure to tag us on Facebook or shout us out on twitter to show us how you’re spreading the word.
Alongside a massive gavel, billboards warning that “VOTER FRAUD IS A FELONY! Up to 3 ½ YRS & $10,000 Fine” have been placed primarily in predominantly African American and Latino communities as well as around student populations. It’s clear that the intent of the billboards is to deter responsible, eligible Americans from voting by placing a stigma on these communities. Clear Channel Outdoor has refused to take down the billboards despite public outrage. Moreover, group behind these billboards continue to hide under a cloak of secrecy.
We have refused to remain silent as an anonymous group attempts to scare voters away from the polls by countering their billboards with this positive message to empower ALL eligible voters. Remember, every eligible voter has the right to participate fully in our democracy, because when we vote we are all equal.
The best way to fight back against voter intimidation is to go to the polls—we’re just here to help YOU make sure your voice is heard.
Special thanks to the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, Common Cause, United Steel Workers, Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, and the National Education Association for generously funding these billboards.
