Voting to Be a Little More Straight-Forward in Ohio

An Associated Press article reported on Tuesday that if the Ohio legislature does its job, Ohio voters can look forward to what will hopefully be a smoother registration and voting experience this year. The article by Stephen Majors, "Ohio elections chief, Democrats propose expanded early voting sites, streamlined voter ID law," explains that with the bill, developed by Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner and House Democrats, voters will have more choices for early voting and fewer reasons to vote provisionally. It also simplifies voter ID rules that have been confusing in the past. Election Protection applauds Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner and the House Democrats for their work on these important issues.

An editorial in The Akron Beacon Journal addressed the battle ahead in the Ohio legislature, focusing on what can be expected from House Republicans.

Election Protection couldn't agree more with their conclusion:

In working out differences between the two bills, Republicans in the Senate should take the same care and consideration exhibited by Brunner and House Democrats, producing a new law that encourages voter participation and confidence.
