Voting in Oklahoma

When You Can Vote

Election Day: Polls open at 7:00 a.m. and close at 7:00 p.m. central time. Any voter who is in line by 7:00 p.m. is entitled to cast a ballot.


Early Voting (In-Person Absentee): Polls are open from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. central time on the Wednesday before a general election, 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. central time on the Thursday and Friday before all elections, and from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. central time on the Saturday immediately before a general election, primary election, runoff primary election or presidential preferential primary election.

Where You Can Vote

Election Day: Voters can determine their polling place through the OK Voter Portal or by contacting their local county election board. Voters must vote at their assigned polling place.


Early Voting (In-Person Absentee): Voters can vote at a designated early voting location only in the county where they are registered.

You are eligible to vote in Oklahoma if you:

  • Are a U.S. citizen
  • Are a resident of Oklahoma
  • Are at least 18 years old by Election Day

You may pre-register to vote at 17 1/2 years old

You are NOT eligible to vote in Oklahoma if:

  • You are currently serving a sentence including incarceration, parole, probation, or extended supervision for a felony conviction
  • A judge has specifically ruled that you are not able to vote.

Restorative Requirements

  • If you have completed a felony sentence, including any term of incarceration, parole, supervision, period of probation, or you have been pardoned, then you are immediately eligible to register to vote

Register to vote through the Online Voter Registration System or by filling out a Voter Registration Application.

Only residents of Oklahoma are eligible to register to vote, meaning the person must physically reside in Oklahoma and intend to remain there indefinitely.

Voters can apply for absentee ballots online or download an absentee ballot request form.

Absentee ballots can be hand delivered to the voter’s local county election board no later than the end of regular business hours the day before election day. Voters delivering their own ballots must comply with the same identification requirements as voters voting in-person.

Voters can vote at a designated early voting location only in the county where they are registered.

Identification Requirements

Voter Registration

To register to vote in Oklahoma you should provide one of the following:

  • Last Four Digits of your Social Security Number
  • Your Oklahoma Driver’s License Number

If you do not have one of these forms of ID and need help getting ID, go to www.voteriders.org.

Voting In-Person

In Oklahoma, you need to show a valid ID to vote. You can use any ID from this list:

  • Valid Federal Issued ID
  • Valid Oklahoma Issued ID
  • Valid Tribal ID
  • Voter Registration Card

All ID’s must contain the name of the person to whom it was issued; photo of person to whom it was issued; and an expiration date that is after the date of the election, unless the identification is valid indefinitely. If you do not have one of the Oklahoma valid IDs and need help getting ID, go to www.voteriders.org.

After registering, voters will receive a Voter Identification Card.

Voter IDs must be unexpired (identification that never expires is also acceptable).

Voters who do not comply with the ID requirements while voting in-person can cast a provisional ballot.

To cast an absentee ballot, notarization or witness requirements apply, depending on the type of absentee ballot. Public notaries must notarize absentee ballots free of charge. Voters delivering their own ballots must comply with the same identification requirements as voters voting in-person.

If You Have Moved Within Your State

Moving within the Same County: You may update your voter registration using the Online Voter Registration tool to make an address change. A registered voter who has moved within the same county but has not updated their voter registration with the new address will be permitted to vote where they are registered (the old address) for one last time but will be required to update their voter registration to reflect the new address and to vote at the new precinct in future elections.

Moving between Counties: A voter who changes residence to a different county must re-register to vote in the new county by the registration deadline, which is generally 25 days before the date of the election.

If You Are in the Military or Are an Overseas Voter

Voting Military

Service members and their dependents may register and request a ballot using the federal voter registration/ballot request form (“FPCA”). You will have the following identification options when completing the form:

  • U.S. State or Territory or District Issued ID
  • Option to Indicate that you do not have the Requested ID
  • Last 4 Digits of your Social Security Number

Voting Overseas

U.S. citizens living overseas may register and request a ballot using the overseas voter registration/ballot request form. You will have the following identification options when completing the form:

  • U.S. State or Territory or District Issued ID
  • Option to Indicate that you do not have the Requested ID
  • Last 4 Digits of your Social Security Number

Military and Overseas Voters may use the same procedures for registering to vote and voting available to non-military and non-overseas voters.

Members of the U.S. Armed Forces and Merchant Marine, commissioned corps of the Public Health Service and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, their eligible spouses and dependents, and other voters who reside outside the United States (collectively, “UOCAVA voters”) may register and vote through the Federal Post Card Application (“FPCA”) or the Federal Write-In Absentee Ballot (“FWAB”). Additional information can be found at the Oklahoma Federal Voting Assistance Program.

FPCA Registration. UOCAVA voters may use the Federal Post Card Application (FPCA) to register to vote and to request an absentee ballot (https://www.fvap.gov/oklahoma). Voters can complete the FPCA online or download the application. Both methods require the voter to print, sign, and return the application via mail, email, or fax to their local county election office. Voters can choose to receive their ballots via mail, fax, or online.

FCPA Voting. Ballots must be sent via mail or fax to the voter’s local county elections board. Voters who chose to receive their ballot online will receive an email when the ballot becomes available.

Note: Military and Overseas Voters, and their spouses and dependents, who returned home within the 90 days preceding an election due to honorable discharge, military leave, or termination from overseas employment, may cast provisional ballots in the election despite not being registered to vote if they are eligible to register.

If You Have a Felony Conviction

Oklahoma requires the cancellation of the voter registration of any person convicted of a felony. A person who has been convicted of a felony may register to vote when they have fully served their sentence (i.e., completed any term of incarceration, parole, supervision, or probation). A person who has been convicted of a felony and had their sentence commuted is eligible to register to vote once the commuted sentence has been fully served.

Misdemeanor convictions do not affect voting rights.
