Registration Deadlines

Voter registration ends 25 days before Election Day. You can visit your County Election Board or mail in this form.

Deadline for 2008 General Election: Friday October 10, 2008

Identification Required for Registration

You will need to put your driver's license number or the last four digits of your social security number on your registration application.

Voting Information

Identification Required to Vote

When you register to vote you will receive a Voter ID card from the election official. You will need to bring this card with you when you go to vote.

If you lost or misplaced your Voter ID card, you can get a new one by contacting your County Elections Official. Cards are not issued during the 24 days before the election, so you must make sure your request for a new card is received no later than October 10, 2008.

Absentee Voting

Anyone can request an absentee ballot, with or without a reason.

  • Applications must be made by downloading and mailing in a form from  this website or by writing a letter to your County Elections Official and including your name, date of birth, address at which you are registered, the election for which you are requesting a ballot, mailing address, and signature.
  •  If your absentee ballot is mailed to you, you must return it to the County Election Board by mail.
  • You can vote your absentee ballot in person during Early Voting times.

Rules and Deadlines:

  • Wednesday, October 29, 2008 is the last day to request an absentee ballot.
  • Absentee ballots must be received by the County Election Board by November 4, 2008 at 7:00 P.M.

Early Voting

You can vote early at your county election board during these times:

  • Friday, October 31, 8 AM - 6 PM
  • Saturday, November 1, 8 AM - 1 PM
  • Monday, November 3, 8 AM - 6 PM

Emergency Absentee Voting

If you become ill or incapacitated after 5 p.m. on the Tuesday preceding an election you can get an absentee ballot through special emergency procedures.

  • Make a written request to the County Election Board and enclose a copy of a statement from your doctor saying that you will not be able to vote on Election Day due to your condition.
  • Send your request to the County Election Board with a person of your choosing. This person will become your agent.
  • Your agent can pick up a ballot for you. Your agent must deliver the ballot back to the County Election Board by 7:00 PM on Election Day.

Information For People who have Moved or Changed Addresses

You must re-register at your new address once you have moved by either visiting your County Elections Board or mailing in a new registration application.

If you moved within 30 days (October 6 for 2008) before the election, you can vote for President and Vice President at your old address. Contact the County Election Board at your old address if you need an absentee ballot for this.

Information for People with Felony Convictions

If you have been convicted of a felony you cannot register to vote again until a period of time equal to the original judgment and sentence has expired.
