Registration Deadlines

In order to vote in the upcoming election, your registration must be postmarked at least 30 days before Election Day.  You can also register in-person at your local County Clerk's office by the 15th day before the election. If you choose this option, you will not be able to use Early Voting.

Voting Information

Identification Required to Vote

A valid voter ID is now required to vote in Utah.

Present One (1) of the following forms of ID that bears the name and photograph of the voter:

  • Currently valid Utah Driver's License
  • A currently valid identification card issued by:
    • The State of Utah
    • A branch, department, or agency of the United States
  • A currently valid Utah permit to carry a concealed weapon
  • A valid United States passport
  • A valid Tribal Identification Card, whether or not the card includes a photograph of the voter

OR

Present Two (2) of the following forms of identification that bears the name of the voter and provides evidence that the voter resides within the voting precinct:

  • Current utility bill or a legible copy (dated within 90 before the election)
  • A bank or other financial account statement, or legible copy
  • A certified birth certificate
  • A valid social security card
  • A check issued by the state or the federal government, or legible copy thereof
  • A paycheck from the voter's employer, or a legible copy
  • A valid Utah Hunting or Fishing license
  • A currently valid United States military I.D. card
  • Certified naturalization documentation
  • A valid license issued by an authorized agency of the United States
  • A certified copy of court records showing the voter's adoption or name change
  • A Bureau of Indian Affairs card
  • A tribal treaty Card
  • Valid Medicaid card, Medicare card, or Electronic Benefits Transfer Card
  • A currently valid identification card issued by:
    • A local government within the State of Utah
    • An employer for an employee
    • A college, university, technical school, or professional school located within the State of Utah

Voters who do not present proper identification at the polls, may vote using a provisional ballot, however the provisional ballot will not count unless they provide valid voter identification to the election official within 5 days after the election.

Absentee Voting

Anyone who is registered to vote may vote absentee.

You must apply for an absentee ballot:

  • Mail:  You must submit an application to your County Clerk and it must be received by Friday before the election (October 29, 2010).  If you are overseas, the application must be received no later than 20 days before the election (October 13, 2010).
  • Returning the Ballot:  The completed ballot must be postmarked by November 1, 2010 and it must be received before noon on Election Day in order for it to count.
  • If you are hospitalized or otherwise confined to a medical or long-term care institution, then you may apply for an absentee ballot after the deadline to apply, and the ballot must be submitted to the Clerk before the polls close on Election Day.

Early Voting

Early Voting begins on October 20 and goes until 5:00 p.m. on October 30. The polls will be open for at least 4 hours each day. You must present either one form of photo identification with your name, or two forms of non-photo identification with your name and address on each. 

You must be registered to qualify for Early Voting.

Information For People who have Moved or Changed Addresses

If you moved and want to vote at the polling place for your new address, you must re-register to vote by the deadlines listed above.

If you moved or changed your address within Utah and are registered for the upcoming election at your old address, you will be able to cast a provisional ballot at the polling place for your new address.  In order for a provisional ballot to count as a vote, you must show photo identification and proof of your current residence.  If the poll worker can verify that you are registered and you are voting at the correct new precinct, then your vote will count.

Information for People with Felony Convictions

Felons are able to register and vote after they complete their sentences.
